Acer has brought its Veriton N260G nettop to the United States, after an earlier introduction to the U.K. and European markets. The streamlined, ultra-compact device is intended for enterprise users, as well as for offices where space is at a premium. Its starting price is $399.
Acer, which announced the new nettop Aug. 18, has updated the chipset from the Veriton’s predecessor, the AspireRevo, and so the N260G boasts an Intel Atom N280 1.66GHz processor. However, some may prefer the AspireRevo’s Nvidia Ion graphics chipset to the N260G’s Intel GN40 Express.
Still, the chassis is only a liter, there’s up to 2GB of memory total – the combination of two, 1GB slots – a 160GB hard drive, an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M and the ability to playback high-definition videos.
There are six USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI port, a multi-in-one card reader, high-definition microphone and headphone jacks and a PS/2 slot. The operating system is Microsoft’s Windows XP Professional OS, and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/draft-n are integrated, along with gigabit ethernet.
The N260G can sit upright on its retractable stand or, using a Vesa mounting system, attach to the back of a PC monitor.
“Combining a sleek form factor with power-saving technology, the Veriton N260G is a convenient, low-maintenance device for accomplishing basic computing tasks in areas where there is little desk space,” said Leila Axelle Robert, Acer’s commercial systems business manager, in a statement.
“Whether the Veriton n260G is leveraged for classrooms, libraries or administrative purposes, this nettop delivers a streamlined solution for a small investment with a low total cost of ownership.”
The N260G comes pre-loaded with Veriton ControlCenter, a utility suite that includes QuickMigration, for updating and transferring data between PCs; PowerSaver, for configuring power levels for normal use or energy savings; SmartBoot, for automatically loading frequently used programs; eLock Management, for password protection and other security options; and eSettings Management, an interface for quick configuration.
The N260G is Energy Star qualified and now available at Acer-authorized resellers.
