Gateway is offering a new powered-up notebook for consumers and small business owners.

The Irvine, Calif. PC maker announced Nov. 9 that it would begin to offer a new notebook, the NX570, with Intels Core Duo processors.

The new notebook, which the company said is immediately available, has a base price of $899, according to the companys Web site.

The PC maker is making the new notebook available through its direct sales channel. On June 29, Gateway announced a new direct sales program that offers a more streamlined and simple approach for consumers and businesses to buy its notebooks and desktops.

The direct sales model was once the companys bread-and-butter source of revenue, but it had moved away from that type of sales as it offered more of its PCs through various retailers.

To help this new sales model, the company has also introduced a number of new line of notebooks and desktops that sell between $799 and $999.

Gateway has worked to diversify its product line, especially for businesses. On Nov. 7, the company announced that it will use Advanced Micro Devices Opteron processors in some of its servers.

The latest NX570 notebook comes with Intels Core Duo T2050 processors, which runs at 1.6GHz, and customers can upgrade the processors to a Core 2 Duo.

The notebook also comes with 512MB of RAM, an 80GB hard drive, a 15.4-inch display, a DVD/CDRW combo drive, the choice of either a ATI Mobility Radeon x1400 of Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 graphics processor and Bluetooth wireless technology.

The notebooks run the Microsoft Windows operating system, and can be upgraded to Vista, Gateway said.
