HP Releases Desktop, EliteBook Mobile Workstations

Hewlett-Packard has released Z220 workstations and EliteBook mobile workstations, both boasting Intel processing power and a breadth of ISV certifications to target professionals across a variety of industries. Quad-core configurations of the Z220 workstations start at $699, and the EliteBook 8770w, 8570w, 8470w mobile workstations start at $1,699, $1,449, and $1,329, respectively. The models are expected to be available later this month.

The Z220 sports Intel Core and Intel Xeon processors, four integrated USB 3.0 high-speed ports and up to 32GB of 1,600MHz double data rate type 3 (DDR3) memory, and is available in two configurations: An expandable, Convertible Mini-Tower (CMT) or a highly compact Small Form Factor (SFF). Both models feature Intel high-definition graphics P4000 professional graphics option (on selected Intel Xeon E3v2 processors), while HP also offers a selection of entry-level, midrange and high-end discrete graphics cards from Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices. Also included is Intel€™s Smart Response Technology, a disk-caching feature that can improve storage I/O performance, resulting in faster boot times and frequently accessed applications.

The EliteBook w-series offers Intel Core i7 quad-core or i7 or i5 dual-core processors and up to 32GB of system memory, a 17.3-inch diagonal display on the 8770w or a 15.6-in. display on the 8570w. The EliteBook 8470w, the most compact of the mobile workstations, has a 14-inch diagonal HD display. The 8570w and 8770w are available with DreamColor Technology as an option, which helps keep display colors consistent. They also feature a magnesium aluminum chassis, radial-brushed display cover that resists fingerprints, glass touch-pads and precision aluminum-alloy hinges.

Other business-oriented features on the EliteBook w-series include SRS Premium Sound Pro for improved audio quality when engaging in a video conferences, Web-based training or streaming videos. All workstations come preloaded with the company€™s Performance Advisor, which provides a consolidated report of the workstation€™s hardware and software configuration that can be used to tune the workstation specifically for professional application workloads.
