Sony Electronics announced Sept. 26 that it is offering a new broadband version of its high-end Vaio notebooks that the company hopes to market to those on the go.
The Vaio VGN-TXN10 series notebook, which comes equipped with an Intel Core Solo processor and Sonys SmartWi technology, will allow users access to connect to Sprints Power Vision Network for wireless downloading of e-mail, Internet access and the ability to download large files, the company said in a statement.
Once Sprint rolls out its EvDO (Evolution Data Optimized) Revision technology, Sony claims that notebooks users will be able to download at speeds of 450 to 800 K bps and upload data at 300 to 400 K bps.
With its SmartWi technology, Sony said the new notebooks will integrate wireless WAN, 802.11b/g wireless LAN and Bluetooth technology. Users will then be able to use the new Vaio either at home or on the road, even if they travel outside Internet hot spots.
Sony is marketing the notebooks to those who spend their fair share of time traveling. In addition to the broadband capabilities, the new TX series laptops weigh 2.8 pounds and come with an 11.1-inch-wide display screen.

Other features include a standard battery life of between five and 11 hours, fingerprint sensor for security and hard-drive protection to reduce the risk of damage from falls.
The notebook will also have Microsoft Vista capabilities.
Sony said it will begin selling the TX notebooks, which start at $2,300, by the end of September.
