Toshiba announced Oct. 10 that it is introducing several updates to its mid-range Satellite notebook line, and the company said it plans to market the new computers to both enterprises and the consumer.

The computer section of Toshiba American Information Systems, which is based in Irvine, Calif., announced that the Satellite P105, M115 and the U205 series of notebooks will feature Intels Core 2 Duo processors.

The computer maker is aiming the new notebooks for the mid-range of the user market. The starting prices for the new notebooks range from about $1,200 on the low end to up to $1,600 on the high end, according to a statement from Toshiba.

Toshiba is offering one model in the M115 line. The new M115-S3144 notebook will feature a 14.1-inch diagonal widescreen display and Microsofts Windows XP Professional operating system. The notebook is also Vista-ready, the company said.

Toshiba said the M115 notebook will also feature a 1.60GHz Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo processor, 2048MB of DDR2 (double data rate) synchronous dynamic RAM (SDRAM), a 120GB hard drive and an Intel Pro wireless network connection.

The estimated starting price for the Satellite M115-S3144 is $1,249, according to Toshiba.

Toshiba also introduced four new models in its P105 notebook line. All four models come with 1.60GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processors, 17-inch diagonal widescreen displays, the Windows XP operating system and Intel Pro Wireless network connection.

The P105-S6124 comes with 2048MB of DDR2 SDRAM and a 160GB hard drive. The P105-S6134 also has 2048 of DD2 SDRAM but it comes with a 200GB hard drive. Both notebooks feature Toshibas USB TV tuner.

The starting prices of the P105 notebooks range from $1,249 to $1,549.

Finally, Toshiba said it will offer two new models in the U205 series. The new models will come with a 12.1-inch diagonal display and the Windows XP operating system.

      The U205-S5034 comes with a 1.60GHz Intel Core processor, 1024MB of DD2 SDRAM and a 100GB hard drive. The S5044 has a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2048 of DD2 SDRAM and a 120GB hard drive.
