Printing services specialist Xerox launched three printers-two color printers and a multifunction color printer-aimed at small to medium-size businesses and offering Emulsion Aggregate toner technology, which provides more consistent toner particles for crisp text and smooth color transitions.

The Phaser 6010 and 6500 color printers retail for $299 and $399, respectively, while the WorkCentre 6505 color multifunction printer carries a list price of $649.

The 6500 and 6505 boast print speeds of 24 pages per minute (ppm) in color and black and white, and have a paper capacity of up to 500 sheets. The Phaser 6010 offers print speeds as fast as 12 ppm for color and 15 ppm for black and white. All three printers are Energy Star-qualified. The Phaser 6010’s compact form factor and lightweight design, according to Xerox, make it well-suited for small office or home office environments, and it can handle a variety of custom media and sizes, from labels and card stock to envelopes.

The WorkCentre 6505 offers copy, scan, fax and digital workflow capabilities, as well as such features as scan to e-mail, network scanning, direct scan to applications including optical character recognition, and scan to USB memory devices. The WorkCentre 6505 and Phaser 6500 both operate with small, high-capacity cartridges that save on storage space and can produce up to 80 percent less waste than comparable color devices, according to a Xerox release.

Other features of the 6010 include a Hi-Q LED print engine, an intuitive two-line LCD user interface that features a gauge showing current toner levels, a manual feed slot that lets users feed single-sheet media and envelopes without opening and loading the paper tray, and a 384MHz processor and 128MB of standard memory.

The Phaser 6500 features Adobe PostScript 3 for precise print jobs, a CentreWare IS internal Web server to help handle device administration from the computer’s browser, and a 400MHz processor and 256MB of standard memory.

The WorkCentre 6505 features a front-side USB port, allows users to print from or scan to any standard USB memory device, and has a 35-sheet automatic document feeder that handles a range of media sizes. In addition, the Run Black feature lets users keep printing in black and white even if the printer runs out of color toner.

The Phaser 6010, Phaser 6500 and WorkCentre 6505 are currently available worldwide through Xerox resellers and dealers and are backed by the Xerox Total Satisfaction Guarantee. Xerox’s EA (Emulsion Aggregate) toner technology, combined with 600-by-600-by-4-dpi resolution, is engineered to produce small, more consistent toner particles for crisp text and smooth color transitions.

Using EA toner technology, copies and prints can be created using less toner on the paper and finer lines, yielding a higher quality appearance. With control over the toner particle shapes during the aggregation step, toners can be manufactured that transfer to the paper more efficiently, resulting in less waste toner to discard.

“The key to growth for any business is attracting and retaining customers. For a small business, that means making a big impression while spending less,” said Carl Bothner, vice president and general manager of Xerox’s indirect channels business group. “These new color products give SMBs an affordable and easy way to create the same impactful color documents as larger enterprises.”
