GrandStream Networks today announced that the GXV3140 IP Multimedia Phone has officially been Skype-certified, allowing users to place and receive Skype audio and video calls directly from a multimedia SIP desk phone.

I reviewed the GXV3140 back in September, while the Skype functionality was still in beta. At that time, I found Skype audio calls worked great, while video chat was functional but a bit off-hue. With Skype certification ensured, however, customers should be confident the phone will work optimally with the VOIP and video chat service.

At the time of my review, I was actually more troubled by the phone’s propensity to crash when viewing video content delivered from RSS feeds or via the on-board memory slot. However, GrandStream claims to have addressed those problems, as a few new firmware versions have been released since my review.
