It appears that Apple’s troubled white model of the iPhone 4 is available in very limited quantities, but only if you have a friend inside Apple. A reporter from Geek.com spotted one last night at an event in New York, and published a photo of the elusive mobile device.

Personally, the only way I’d want a white iPhone 4 is with a matching white bumper – fortunately, Apple has plenty of those for sale. With less than six weeks until Black Friday, Apple’s running out of time to get the white iPhone 4 into customers’ hands before Christmas. I don’t expect to hear anything about the Great White iPhone when Captain Jobs takes the stage next week in Cupertino, but it seems like it’s now or never.

If the story is true that Apple can’t get the plastic shell and the Home button to match – and since they’re said to come from different suppliers, I believe it until proven wrong – then I can’t blame Apple for not putting them out for retail customers. The company’s been subjected to enough bad press after the raid on Gizmodo editor Jason Chen and Antennagate, and I subscribe to the superstition about bad things coming in threes.

Is the iPhone 4 cursed? Probably not, but you know what they say about pride coming before a fall; Apple’s shown enough of the former that the latter seems almost inevitable.
