Hitwise: Google Video Gaining on MySpace

On the occasion of Microsoft releasing its video-sharing platform into private beta, Hitwise is reporting that Google Video continues to hold the No. 3 spot and is gaining on MySpace Videos, which is ranked second overall.

Google Video gained almost a full percentage point of video search share, moving from 10.25 percent in August to 11.20 percent after the second week in September. MySpace Videos share decreased over two percentage points, from 22.99 percent to 20.86 percent. YouTube continued to gain share, moving up about half a percentage point from 45.46 percent to 46.11 percent.

Google leapfrogged MSN Video last monthwhen the former added a link to its video site on its home page. Google was ranked as the fifth most popular service in July, with 4.97 percent share. Hitwise reports that MSN has since posted a slight gain on Google, growing slightly over 1 percent, from 6.06 percent in August to 7.09 percent today.

MSN Video has also passed Yahoo since August.
