British database security vendor NGSSoftware has tapped former McAfee chief security officer Ted Barlow to head up its North American operations.

NGSSoftware, based in London, said Barlow will handle its expansion into major U.S. markets.

Barlow previously served for four years as vice president and CSO at McAfee, a Santa Clara, Calif., provider of anti-virus and Internet security products.

While at McAfee, Barlow was responsible for creating security and architecture strategies to protect the companys data, physical property, networks and intellectual property.

Prior to McAfee, Barlow led the security assurance consulting practices for Deloitte & Touche and @stake.

In addition to plans for expansion into the United States, NGSSoftware managing director David Litchfield said the company recently opened an office in Sydney, Australia, to push into the security market Down Under.

NGSSoftware is renowned for its work around database security, regularly reporting major vulnerabilities in Oracle database and server products and other high-level enterprise applications.
