Windows users should turn on their auto-updating features to help combat potentially dangerous attacks, said Microsoft Corp. Chairman Bill Gates. “We will guarantee that the average time to fix will continue to come down,” said Gates, who was in Australia for a charity launch Monday.

A virus designed to steal financial data and passwords from Web users moved around the Internet last week exploiting a vulnerability in servers using Microsoft IIS software.
