As phishing scams escalate and mature, its getting tougher for consumers to sort out legitimate e-mails from frauds.
Users accustomed to such scams have resorted to deleting any unsolicited e-mails from businesses, but startup Iconix has the lofty goal of helping businesses regain their customers trust in e-mail.
Iconix this week will launch a new e-mail security tool that displays a companys corporate logo in the From field of an e-mail to help users identify e-mails sent from legitimate businesses.
The Iconix eMail ID software plug-in is free for end users, but businesses must pay to register with Iconix. Iconixs tool uses authentication methods such as Domain Keys and Sender ID to determine if a message is sent from its claimed source.
The Iconix eMail ID plug-in is available now for Yahoo Mail users and later this month for MSN Hotmail users. Iconix will extend support for other e-mail clients, including Microsoft Outlook, later this year.
