Yesterday, my mom called frantic, because she could no longer connect to the Internet. While we worked through the problem, she asked, “What does it mean that Windows isnt genuine? Do I have spyware, or a virus?”

Microsofts Windows Genuine Advantage antipiracy mechanism had branded my moms computer as running counterfeit software.

I set up that computer for her three years ago, and Im confident that it left here with a legally licensed copy of Windows XP Home.
