As the deadline for HIPAA compliance moves closer, both the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and the National Committee for Quality Assurance have offered some help.

From the HHS, a free listserv will alert subscribers to announcements about HIPAA, notices of available resources to assist in compliance, and other educational information.

Meanwhile, The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and the National Committee for Quality Assurance have created a certification program that can supply independent verification independent verification that businesses are complying with the privacy rule in good faith. The Web site www.privacycertification.org offers information about the program.
