Web security vendors Marshal and 8e6 Technologies have joined forces.
Officials at both companies announced Nov. 12 they agreed to form Marshal8e6. The move brings together the companies’ respective expertise in e-mail and Web gateway security, helping the new company compete against larger security vendors playing in both areas.
According to the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Secure Web Gateway report released in September, business for dedicated Secure Web Gateway vendors is growing significantly, to the tune of 140 percent year-over-year.
“Today’s threat landscape does not discriminate between Web-based and e-mail threats,” said Ed Macnair, CEO of Marshal, in a statement. “To combat these threats effectively, you need the ability to integrate e-mail and Web security. IT directors want an easy-to-manage, integrated solution that filters malware from inbound and outbound e-mail and Web traffic, stops data leakage and does so with common administration and reporting. Marshal8e6 has all the pieces in place to be the new leader in the Secure Web Gateway market.”
The combined company serves more than 20,000 customers managing more than 16 million end users in 96 countries and had combined billings of more than $50 million in the past year, according to Marshal. The new firm will begin operations with more than 250 employees and major research and development and sales operations in California, England, New Zealand and Taiwan.
