WhiteHat Securitys Web vulnerability assessment service has been woven into an independent managed security service platform for the first time, extending the companys ability to deliver security to different segments of the market.

SecurView, an Edison, N.J., provider of risk assessment and managed security services, will integrate WhiteHat Sentinel into its managed services platform. The move offers SecurView customers security at all layers of their infrastructure, from the network to publicly facing Web applications, SecurView officials said.

The partnership is another example of movement in the growing MSS (managed security service) market. According to an August Gartner report, the MSS market in North America generated approximately $500 million in revenue in 2006, and the research firm estimates that will increase about 19 percent in 2007.

Gartner also estimates that 60 percent of Fortune 500 enterprises engaged in some level of use of an MSSP in 2006, representing about 20 percent of enterprise firewalls under remote monitoring or management.

“SecurView is committed to providing an end-to-end managed security solution that focuses on monitoring every aspect of the clients infrastructure, from the network to the server to the application—from the perimeter to the core,” said Rajeev Khanolkar, co-founder and president of SecurView, in a statement. “While most MSSPs are still focused on reactive management, SecurViews vision entails providing more proactive security at every level of the stack.”

The WhiteHat Sentinel Service assesses Web sites for the 24 classes of vulnerabilities identified by the Web Application Security Consortiums threat classification. The company intends to embed its technology into other MSSPs in the coming months, said Tom Foladare, director of business development at the Santa Clara, Calif., company.

“When we were looking for the first partner to independently operate the Sentinel platform, we felt that SecurViews talent set and experience was a perfect match,” he said.
