As an ETrade customer, i figured i would read about ETrades use of open-source technologies, including Linux (Road Map, “Into the great wide open,” Jan. 30).

As I read, I sat there shaking my head. Doesnt ETrade know you save more money running Microsoft products? Yes, you pay more for them upfront, they are far more expensive to license, and the cost of maintaining, supporting and patching them far outstrips any Linux distribution. But you still (somehow) save money running Windows. Just ask Microsoft.
