Kaspersky Lab announced the latest edition of the company’s security platform built specifically for businesses with fewer than 25 employees.

The updated edition of Kaspersky Small Office Security (KSOS) includes enhanced protection from known, unknown and advanced threats, with multi-layered protection for Windows and Mac computers, servers and Android-based mobile devices. A cloud-based management console lets users manage IT security and devices from anywhere, using a Web browser.

“It takes a lot of effort and expertise to compose a working solution out of available single-purpose applications,” Andrey Pozhogin, senior product marketing manager at Kaspersky Lab North America, told eWEEK. “One would need to protect Windows and Mac-based workstations, mobile devices, deploy AV, have clean virtual machines set up for online banking, set up a backup solution, encrypt sensitive data and employ time-consuming IT policies about the use of strong passwords. This type of a policy can be replaced with a password manager that will not only encourage the use of strong and unique passwords, but will also save a lot of time.”

The platform’s cloud-based password management stores critical company login details and enables users to have a different, unique password for every secure site, across all devices, while only needing to remember one master password.

“Small businesses strive for a powerful security solution, but it has to be easy to manage given the lack of expertise that a security administrator would possess,” Pozhogin said. “Complexity is often said to be the number one enemy of security and this is especially true in the case of a small business. Many believe that it’s just not worth the effort to deploy and manage a comprehensive security solution even facing today’s heightened cyber risk. We take the complexity out of equation.”

The platform also offers security for financial data that protects online business and personal transactions from financial fraud via its improved Safe Money module.

KSOS protects Windows-based (Windows XP through Windows 8.1) or Mac-based desktops and notebooks, Windows file servers, and Android smartphones and tablets.

Each user gets protection for one Windows or Mac computer and one mobile device plus Kaspersky Password Manager. File Server protection is added based on the number of protected users.

“We see a growing demand of highly integrated easy-to-manage solutions such as KSOS, and we believe the demand for these types of solutions will continue to grow significantly,” Pozhogin said. “We will continue to listen to our customers and partners and will continue to perfect KSOS further to meet the needs of small businesses.”
