Modernizing Medicine announced the launch of its latest software suite, Modmed 5.0, which includes new solutions and upgrades to its keystone electronic health record platform.

The update includes products and services to help transform the clinical, financial and operational aspects of specialty practices, as well as product enhancements to EMA, the company’s flagship EHR system developed and coded by practicing physicians.

In addition, Modmed 5.0 furthers Modernizing Medicine’s aim to streamline workflows for specialty providers with a refreshed look for mobile and browser users, according to the company.

By considering styles, colors, fonts and more, the modernized home screen, patient overview, visit overview and virtual exam room updates are designed to enhance the user experience, the company noted.

Updated browsing, reporting and scheduling capabilities simplify functionality and are designed to save providers time and money through an intuitive and consistent experience, according to the company.

“Mobile technologies are making profound impacts on the practice of medicine, but perhaps the most significant is their ability to improve communications with the patient,” Mandy Long, vice president of product management for medical and data at Modernizing Medicine, told eWEEK. “Physicians were once tied down to antiquated and cumbersome desktop computers, putting distance between the provider and their patient and also increasing data entry requirements. It was time-consuming, repetitive and inefficient.”

Long said the ability to use iPad-based platforms designed for touch, not typing, allows doctors to spend less time scribing notes and more time having face-to-face patient engagement.

“Because of the increased personal interaction with clients, physicians can provide more specialized care—in turn, drastically improving patient outcomes and retention,” she explained.

Enhancements include Practice Management, an all-in-one system for scheduling, document management, billing and reporting designed to help improve practice workflows and boost patient payments, plus clinical lab integrations with Quest and Labcorp.

Additional features include Modmed Telehealth, designed to enable physicians to have richer engagement with patients and get paid for their time through Modernizing Medicine’s telemedicine platform; Pathology, aimed at medical practices with an in-house lab; and document and bill pathology reports within Modmed Dermatology.

“The launch of Modmed 5.0 and other enhancements across our products and services are a direct response to the shift in compliance reporting and the unique documentation needs of our customers,” Long said. “Similar automated solutions that can streamline this process will help practicing physicians to achieve financial success and focus on what they do best—providing care for patients.”
