Software development company Optimum Path Systems and active IT asset management and environmental monitoring solutions specialist RF Code announced the integration of Visual Data Center Enterprise Edition (VDC) and RF Code’s wire-free, sensor-based environmental monitoring solutions. The integrated solution helps enable data center managers and facility managers to improve visibility and control of the environmental layer within the data center, including real time three-dimensional thermal imaging of the facility.
The companies said the combined solution would allow users to see a facility layout with real time power consumption, temperature, humidity and thermal image data, which could lead to greater awareness of operating conditions for the environment and specific devices. Optimum and RF Code argue this awareness enables centralized planning and decision making related to overall power and cooling capacity, performance management and alarm/notification processing for both IT and facility devices in the data center.
Visual Data Center (VDC) Enterprise Edition is a data center monitoring and operations management tool designed to monitor, centralize, normalize and display data from IT and facility equipment and/or existing monitoring systems like RF Code’s wire-free monitoring solution. With VDC, critical IT and facility performance data can be benchmarked and transformed into usable performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to support the drive for operational efficiency.
“We feel strongly that the combination of the Visual Data Center platform and the RF Code wire-free technology provides a seamless solution for data center managers to monitor and manage their data center environmental data,” said Steven Webel, chief operating officer of Optimum. “The openness and flexibility of the respective products has allowed for an easy technical integration. We look forward to working with RF Code on other asset monitoring initiatives as part of our ongoing partnership.”
RF Code’s active RFID-based wire-free environmental monitoring technology provides information about temperature, humidity, leak detection, dry contact and door status. This is designed to give customers real-time information needed to better manage the environmental factors that influence data center assets, including power and cooling.
Chris Gaskins, vice president of product development for RF Code, called Optimum Path an ideal technology integration partner. “Their market-proven Visual Data Center platform is an example of an innovative company making maximum use of our technology to provide powerful benefits for customers,” he said. By adding environmental monitoring data to Visual Data Center, the integrated solution gives data center and facilities professional a very powerful, easy- to-use tool for monitoring and managing their power and cooling.”
