Data loss prevention solutions specialist Palisade Systems announced the launch of ComplianceSafe, the company’s first DLP product optimized for small businesses. ComplianceSafe runs as a service, like Facebook or Web mail, and is designed to protect small businesses against inadvertent disclosure of private or sensitive data that can occur through outbound e-mail data leaks.

“Smaller businesses are equally prone to the inadvertent and costly disclosure of private or sensitive data but, compared to larger companies, they are often ill-equipped to deploy and operate a complex DLP solution,” said Peter Christy, principal with Internet Research Group. “Palisade’s SAAS offering is designed so that customer expertise requirements are minimal, and, therefore, makes valuable DLP capabilities available to a much larger market.”

ComplianceSafe controls the flow of confidential information in outbound email messages: The service monitors data leaving the premises via email and regulates information flowing outward such as: Social Security numbers, credit card numbers, Patient Health Information (PHI), financial information, proprietary business knowledge, and other data that should be kept confidential.

“There was an entire market segment locked out of data loss prevention services because of price and a complex implementation process favored enterprise organizations with IT departments,” said Christian Renaud, CEO of Palisade Systems. “ComplianceSafe breaks through these barriers and delivers a SaaS solution that makes meeting regulatory requirements as easy as managing a Facebook account.”

Renaud said data leaks are serious problems for SMBs (small to medium-size businesses), especially in financial services, retail and health care. He noted small businesses are governed by the same federal and state regulations and business rules as large enterprises including the HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), state privacy laws in California, Massachusetts, and elsewhere, as well as the PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard).

Palisade’s other DLP product, PacketSure helps organizations proactively secure sensitive and proprietary intellectual property from leaving data networks, defines and enforces access to internal network resources, and enforces compliance with federal privacy and industry security regulations such as HIPAA and GLBA.
