Data protection, backup and disaster recovery specialist Paragon Software launched its Hyper-V Migration Bundle, designed to give small and midsize businesses (SMBs) a single-pane-of-glass solution for migrating data to both physical and virtual machines.

The bundle includes the company’s Protect & Restore (PPR) backup and disaster recovery (BDR) software, designed for SMBs that require the flexibility to support both physical servers and Hyper-V hosts with a single BDR solution, and full data protection for physical servers as well as virtual servers after migration using a solution anchored by the features of PPR’s image-based universal backup and recovery technology.

“With the advent of virtual machines and the increased demand for their use in businesses of all sizes, the need for data migration tools and improved data migration processes has grown exponentially,” Tom Fedro, president of Paragon Software Group, told eWEEK. “Live migration has been around for more than a decade, and it changed the game in the data center, allowing businesses to move active virtual machines between physical hosts—without downtime or service disruption.”

Fedro said that’s a value proposition that every business can understand, and that’s why it continues to grow, especially as more technology companies, such as Microsoft, have introduced live migration features and products such as Hyper-V, to expand the market even further.

Protect & Restore also integrates with VMware application programming interfaces (APIs) and minimizes the size of all VM backup images, which are designed to create minimal backup windows.

Available through Paragon reseller partners, including CDW, SHI, Newegg, En Pointe and Softmart, the Hyper-V Migration Bundle is listed for $999 if purchased before Dec. 31, and if purchased separately, the package is valued at $3,247.

In addition, the bundle includes the Paragon Hard Disk Manager 15 technician’s license for system optimization and disaster recovery capabilities that go beyond backup and recovery, a set of utilities for P2V migration, deployment, partitioning and secure disk wiping.

Other software is also included, as well as Paragon support, including one year of phone support with the company’s U.S.-based solution engineers and a one-year Paragon Technology Assurance agreement.

“Small to midsized businesses, more than their larger counterparts, need simplicity and value in their approaches to IT overall, including data protection and data migration,” Fedro said. “Their IT budgets are considerably smaller than larger companies, and they don’t typically have the same level of IT resources that larger businesses maintain. Yet they want to accomplish the same things, and most of them recognize that data integrity is essential to their success. We’re finding that, more and more, these SMBs understand the role that data migration can play in helping them avoid any setbacks caused by lost or compromised data.”

SMBs are also seeing the benefits that virtual machines deliver, yet they have been challenged by the new complexities they present, Fedro explained.

“It’s an opportunity for our channel partners to step in and provide guidance, and an opportunity for companies like Paragon, with offerings such as our new Hyper-V Migration Bundle, which eliminates the complexities of data migration and also offers great value to SMBs,” he said.
