Ricoh Aficio Printers Offer Security, Productivity Features

Digital office equipment and document management solutions and services specialist Ricoh Americas announced the availability of the Aficio MP C2051/MP C2551 color digital imaging system, aimed at small to midsize businesses. Both printers, which come with 8.5-inch color displays, boast Ricoh’s HotSpot MFP technology, allowing mobile users to print from a handheld device or smartphone without extra drivers or software.

In addition, the system offers print and copy output speeds of 20 and 25 pages per minute in full-color and black and white, respectively. Both models have first-copy times of 6.4 seconds for black and white and 9.2 seconds for full-color documents.

The suggested price for the Aficio MP C2051 is $6,450, and the MP C2551 is listed at $8,750.

Workflow is further streamlined with icon-driven, one-click PCL6/PostScript 3 preset user interface drivers, a mail-to-print feature that prints PDF or JPEG attachments by sending an e-mail directly to the printer, and optional Print From/Scan-to-Media, which allows users to output and capture documents using a USB drive or SD card.

The printers have a total paper capacity of up to 1,600 sheets and accept a variety of paper types and weights. Adding to their paper-handling capabilities is a standard 50-Sheet Automatic Reversing Document Feeder, an optional 500-sheet internal finisher with automatic stapling and optional two- or three-hole punching, and an optional envelope feeder tray.

The Aficio MP C2051 and MP C2551 offer a line of defenses in safeguarding both printed and electronic documents. Sensitive information is protected using the standard DataOverwriteSecurity System (DOSS) that automatically overwrites the hard drive when activated after each job, while standard HDD encryption when activated allows users to protect their data, even if the hard drive is stolen.

Further security measures can be taken with encrypted PDF transmission via Scan-to-Email and Scan-to-Folder, and S/MIME encryption to protect e-mails from unauthorized network interception. Additionally, log-in and IPP passwords are made more difficult to compromise with the Scan-to-Webmail feature.

The printers allow companies to set output limits, control costs and reinforce economical supply usage by assigning amounts of output or color usage on an individual or group level with the Quota Setting feature. This function is designed to help manage output while keeping supply costs low and predictable.

The Aficio printers also offer a host of environmentally friendly features such as standard auto-duplexing to help lower paper consumption. Additionally, they offer enhanced energy efficiency with faster recovery time. With a short recovery time of less than 10 seconds from sleep mode where they only consume 1 watt, the Aficio MP C2051 and MP C2551 achieve a low Typical Electricity Consumption (TEC) value with 1.00kWh and 1.27kWh, respectively, passing current Energy Star Imaging Equipment specification (version 1.2) by wide margins. This is accomplished by a new Color QSU (Quick Start-up) technology with features such as Ricoh’s energy-saving PxP Toner.

“Small companies are greatly focused on running business without interruption to their day-to-day operations,” said Shun Sato, senior vice president of marketing at Ricoh Americas. “The Aficio MP C2051/MP C2551 streamlines complex workflows into a compact system that requires less time to create and manage documents, which ultimately frees up resources and increases productivity.”
