Fibre Channel switch revenues will grow 17 percent and Fibre Channel HBAs 11 percent over five years, according to DellOro Group. On a per-port basis, shipments will grow more than 40 percent by next year.
John Carvell, DellOros principal SAN research analyst, said iSCSI is not a threat to the Fibre Channel market.
“Companies are beginning to investigate this technology as a possible solution to linking remote servers and departmental servers into the corporate SAN,” said Carvell. “These servers typically were not candidates for an FC solution, so theyre not cannibalizing its potential market.”
