Data integration software developer Contivo Inc., of Mountain View, Calif., announced Monday new tools for vocabulary management.
The Contivo Vocabulary Management Solutions is designed for application implementation and integration within a couple of vertical markets, including high-tech manufacturing and petroleum and chemicals.
What VMS does is provide packaged software sets that combine Contivos data modeling and integration technologies with pre-built vocabularies, models and formats.
The idea is that pre-built solutions and data models focused on industry-specific applications and standards allow users to eliminate a good deal of the modeling needed to implement a vocabulary-based integration approach, officials said.
Components of VMS sets include purpose-built vocabularies, pre-configured data models and formats, the Contivo Repository and Contivo Analyst.
The purpose-built vocabularies tie together specific industry data with business processes, enabling application, legacy and trading partner information to be described and related together in a common business vocabulary.
The software also provides a suite of data models and formats that cover specific business processes.
The namesake repository provides central storage and management functionality for the business vocabulary, data and document models, as well as the resulting data integration designs. The repository enables collaboration.
The Analyst module provides tools to customize the vocabulary, data models and maps. It also provides the automated mapping environment that is driven by the business vocabulary and data models stored in the repository.
