Toshiba Releases 40GB 1.8-Inch Hard Disk Drive

Toshiba America Inc. last week unveiled 20GB and 40GB versions of its 1.8-inch hard disk drive for mobile devices. The higher capacity drives, developed by the Toshiba Storage Device Division, are smaller than a credit card and lighter than a pager, and have a data transfer rate of 100 megabytes per second.

ITWorx Update Eliminates Tunnel Traffic

ITWorx of Burlington, Mass., this week will announce a SpeedArray acceleration feature on its NetCelera 1.5 WAN appliance. SpeedArray is based on patent-pending technology that overcomes limitations of TCP caused by high latency. SpeedArray improves transfer rates of highly compressible files by 15 times and accelerates bulk data files more than a hundred-fold, enabling global disaster recovery and other business-critical applications, according to ITWorx CEO Youssri Helmy. SpeedArray will ship as a free upgrade to NetCelera customers.

Softek Offers SAN Assessment Tools Free to VARs

Fujitsu Software Technology Corp.s Softek Division last week unveiled a free storage assessment service to its channel partners free-of-charge. The Softek Storage Health Assessment program includes tools, reports and step-by-step procedures to evaluate storage area networks. As part of the program, Softek is planning a marketing campaign aimed at the user community to tell about the need for the storage infrastructure snapshot, with all leads generated from the program slated to be passed to solution providers.
