Hewlett-Packard Co. extended its pledge to support the backup format Digital Audio Tape (DAT) in conjunction with partner Certance LLC. The companies announced an extended roadmap to support DAT for the data protection needs of some 6 million small and medium businesses.

Also, HPs Global Investments B.V. subsidiary acquired business availability firm Synstar for an undisclosed amount. The U.K.-based company provides business availability and disaster recovery managed services across desktop configuration and data center environments.
