Hitachi to Invest $500 Million in China Disk Drives

Hitachi Global Storage Technologies this week announced plans to invest up to $500 million to create a manufacturing center in China. The facility will perform final assembly of disk drives using existing component manufacturing in Shenzhen, which borders Hong Kong. The company expects to start producing 3.5-inch disk drives in the new facility in the fourth quarter of 2005.
