Intel and LSI plan to broaden their lineup of multigenerational SAS/SATA RAID offerings for the channel.
The expansion of the relationship between the two companies brings LSI the strength of Intel’s channel presence and broadens Intel’s product line. The two companies began the collaboration in 2003.
Under this expanded agreement, Intel will make available to its channel customers a wider range of SAS/SATA RAID products for Intel servers and workstations. Intel said the products will do a better job of meeting the growing demand for systems requiring advanced data protection, enhanced performance and superior usability.
“RAID is very important for us and for the channel,” said Seth Bobroff, director of marketing for storage at Intel. “We’ve expanded our agreement with LSI and broadened the availability of products.”
Channel partners prefer to have a wider selection of products from which to choose, according to LSI.
“The channel has a different set of uses for these RAID products,” said Mike Gurin, director of channel marketing at LSI. “The channel needs more product variety. System builders and integrators want the entire solution set while OEMs will settle for just one option. So we’ve worked with Intel to create one-stop shopping for them.”
The companies will offer four new SAS/SATA controllers and one system board in the first quarter to its current portfolio of SCSI, SATA and SAS RAID.
