Veritas Software Corp. Tuesday launched a minor upgrade to its software in the nascent storage resource management space, SANPoint Control 3.5.1, officials said.

SRM is software for administering storage based on custom policies and application needs, instead of traditional hardware-centric management.

Version 3.5.1, available now, increases third-party storage support, officials in Mountain View, Calif. said.

SANPoint Control now is available for the AIX operating system, Enterprise Storage System (Shark) high-end arrays, and eServer p-Series of Armonk, N.Y.-based IBM, officials said.

Also now supported is the midrange Clariion series hardware of Hopkinton, Mass.s EMC Corp., and in-band zoning for Inrange Technologies Corp.s FC/900 switch. Inrange, of Lumberton, N.J., switched ownership earlier this week.

SANPoint Control starts at $20,000. A more significant upgrade is expected this summer, officials have said.

Other SRM products include Storage Provisioner, from Sunnyvale, Calif.s Fujitsu Software Technology (Softek) Corp.; Storage Provisioner and SRM Express from IBM; and Automated Resource Manager from EMC, along with products from numerous startups.
