Today’s topics include the release of Apple’s iPad Pro, Consumer Watchdog’s reaction to the FCC’s decision not to require Websites to honor “do not track” browser settings, ARM’s effort to accelerate development of IoT devices and TAG Hueur’s luxury smartwatch goes on sale.

The latest Apple tablet, the iPad Pro, will be available for online ordering starting Nov. 11 and will be available in Apple and other select stores later in the week.

The iPad Pro, which the company announced at its Sept. 9 product launch event, features a 12.9-inch diagonal Retina display made up of 5.6 million pixels.

That’s more pixels than a 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display. The iPad Pro delivers 10-hour battery life, weighs 1.57 pounds and includes the first four-speaker audio system in an Apple mobile device.

The Federal Communication Commission’s decision not to require Websites to honor “do not track” browser settings won’t deter Consumer Watchdog’s efforts to get some sort of federal protection against Web user tracking.

The FCC announced on Nov. 6 that even though its reclassification of the Internet allowed it to regulate Internet communications services in a manner similar to phone companies, it does not intend to apply some existing telecommunications privacy regulations to the Internet.

ARM is expanding its mbed Internet of things platform with new features for managing devices, new reference architectures and the latest technology preview of its mbed operating system.

On Nov. 9, ARM officials unveiled the new offerings that they said will enable companies to secure and launch more scalable Internet of things devices, and will allow the chip architecture designer to gain a stronger foothold in such areas as wearable and smart cities systems.

Watch maker TAG Heuer’s new luxury Connected smartwatch, which was designed and built in collaboration with Intel and Google, is now available for purchase for $1,500 after a splashy release event Nov. 9 in New York.

The Connected smartwatch, first announced in March by TAG Heuer and its partners, includes design and styling from TAG Heuer, a 1.6GHz Atom Z34XX dual-core processor from Intel and Google’s Android Wear operating system.

The timepiece is built inside a Grade 2 titanium case and has a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, a 1.5-inch circular LCD touch-screen display, 1GB of RAM and 4GB of on-board storage.
