If you get a chance, take a look at The Station’s end-of-the-year storage trends story on eWEEK’s main section.

Some of the trends noted may be pretty obvious, such as the continued up-and-to-the-right growth of the data universe itself, which is beginning to cause real consternation in the storage administration community (see my report on how Gartner has quantified this).

We base the identification of these trends on continuing daily — yes, daily — conversations with analysts, storage vendors, IT managers, CTOs, CIOs — people whose business it is to know this information.

The Station particularly enjoys attending conferences when he can do so — events such as Data Center World, VMworld, Oracle OpenWorld, EMC World, Storage Visions, Storage Networking World, Gartner Data Center Conference, and others — where he can meet people who work on the front lines and solve sometimes thorny problems every day.

We welcome your thoughts on these topics.

By the way, Happy New Year to all! And here’s to an up-and-to-the-right 2011!
