Saama Technologies, which has been in the big data interpretation business longer than most companies (since 1997), on Feb. 18 announced a strategic partnership with Microsoft which will bring its analytics engine and services to a much wider audience through the Azure Cloud.
Campbell, Calif.-based Saama made the announcement at its Intuition customer and developer conference in San Francisco. The company has built a client base that includes Apple, Brocade, Broadcom, Cisco Systems, CSAA Insurance, Delta Dental, Dignity Health, PayPal, Salesforce.com and Unilever.
Microsoft, which is now hosting the service, immediately becomes an important addition to Saama’s ecosystem, which includes companies such as Cisco, Salesforce, Tableau, Hortonworks, Informatica and Hyosung.
Saama is known for its advanced industry-specific Fluid Analytics components and services, which it provides for Global 2000 clients. When the service becomes available on the Azure cloud later this quarter, it will open to a whole new set of customers the ability to build and deploy industry-specific analytics solutions and see business results in weeks instead of months, the company said.
Saama describes itself as a pure-play data science solutions company. Fluid Analytics technology uses customers’ existing infrastructure as much as possible to focus on the gaps between existing capabilities and the critical business questions that need to be answered, the company said.
The Fluid Analytics Engine uses Saama’s vertical industry expertise to help create industry-specific business processes in a matter of weeks. Customers then can take strategic advantage of internal and external data assets to grow revenue and improve operating efficiency, the company said.
“An estimated 75 percent of big data investments are underperforming, either because they lack the ability to address specific business needs, or they defensively focus on accommodating exploding data volumes,” said Sagar Anisingaraju, Saama’s Chief Strategy Officer. “Through Microsoft Azure, we solve this problem by delivering accelerated, in-the-moment analytics that can transform companies’ ability to leapfrog their markets with deep and precise business outcomes.”
Saama has longtime industry experience in projects around visualization, master data management, Hadoop batch analytics, cloud implementation and other big data solutions. The company has deep industry knowledge in life sciences, health care, insurance, financial services, high-tech and media.
Saama landed a Series A round of venture financing in June 2015 totaling $35 million from Carrick Capital Partners, according to Crunchbase.
