Cognos Inc. has updated its ReportNet enterprise reporting tool to make it more tightly integrated with the rest of Cognos product portfolio.
ReportNet, which debuted to much fanfare last fall, was initially built on a Web-based architecture different from that of the other Cognos business intelligence products. Integration with those products was possible only at the sign-on and portal interface layers.
ReportNet Version 1.1, released last week, supports shared metadata with other Cognos products through integration of Cognos DecisionStream product. Cognos Visualizer component can also be used within ReportNet for the first time, said Cognos officials in Ottawa.
ReportNet 1.1 also features enhanced integration with third-party products, including native support for SAP AGs Business Warehouse and several of IBMs WebSphere and DB2 data management products.
Mold-Masters Ltd., based in Georgetown, Ontario, is taking advantage of ReportNets capabilities to generate reports from multiple data sources, including SAP Business Warehouse and Microsoft Corp.s SQL Server DBMS. Val Swift, Mold-Masters IT manager, said ReportNet allows the company to get the information it needs by asking one question rather than querying separate data sources.
“Before, wed have to run separate reports from each data source or dump everything into [Microsofts] Excel,” Swift said.
ReportNet 1.1 enhances integration with Excel spreadsheets, including adding the ability to output reports in Excel format. Cognos also added support for six more languages in Version 1.1, enabling users to interact with the software in a total of 10 languages. Reports, once created, can be output in at least 25 languages.
