Precise Software Solutions Inc. is beefing up Precise/Indepth for SQL Server, its application performance monitoring software for Microsoft Corp. SQL Server databases, the company announced on Wednesday.
Precise/Indepth for SQL Server 1.5 features enhanced support for index recommendations, which, along with statistics, are now displayed to the administrator. With the upgrade, users can also more easily track historical performance changes to SQL statements that get changed over time.
Space usage has also been tweaked. Space usage over time is now collected for database, files and individual objects. The information can be stored and analyzed to discern trends.
Also new in Version 1.5 is that unused indexes can be displayed for a table or an entire database. Improvements have also been made to the Statement Locator.
Precise also announced two new add-on products. Precise/Interpoint for COM+ takes a snapshot of database and application performance by correlating database and operating system activity with COM+ application performance. It identifies and tracks problematic SQL statements from user level down to class object and further on to actual SQL Server database call.
The second add-on product, Precise/Storage for Windows, gives visibility into performance of IDE, SCSI, HDS Lightning 99xx/Thunder92xx and HP StorageWorks XP storage arrays. The tool enables monitoring and tuning of performance as well as the viewing and correlation of specific SQL statements.
Precise/Indepth for SQL Server 1.5 and the two add-on products are available immediately. Precise/Indepth pricing depends on server configuration and starts at $5,000.
Storage for Windows is $1,750 and up, based on sever configuration. Interpoint for COM+ is $1,250 and up, based on sever configuration. Precise is in Westwood, Mass.
