POCKET PCs

In developing its handheld operating systems, Microsoft has consistently chosen to err on the side of complexity in deciding which applications to include in its Pocket PC devices.

Sure, it can be useful to take Excel documents out on the road, but anyone whos crouched over the small 240-by-320-pixel display of a Pocket PC attempting to work with a spreadsheet or browse a full-size Web page can understand what makes Palm OS partisans snicker at them.

Ive come across a nifty utility that wont turn a Pocket PC into a laptop but will make it a good deal easier to use applications such as Pocket Internet Explorer.

JS Landscape from Jimmy Software enables Pocket PC users to rotate their device displays to landscape mode (see photo, above) and to switch the Pocket PC display to high-resolution, 480-by-360-pixel mode.

The $10 application wont enlarge your handhelds display, but it can help you make better use of the screen size youve been given. Cruise to www.jimmysoftware.com for more information.
