Cloud9 IDE, provider of a cloud-based integrated development environment (IDE) for Web and mobile applications, has announced the availability of the Cloud9 IDE for Heroku.

Cloud9 for Heroku’s platform as a service (PAAS) provides Web application developers with a one-stop cloud development and deployment platform for Node.js applications from within the Cloud9 IDE.

“With Heroku’s support for Cloud9 IDE, the vision of having a fully integrated development environment in the cloud from writing code, to debugging, to deployment is one step closer,” said Oren Teich, vice president of products at Heroku, in a statement

Cloud9 IDE runs in any Web browser and allows developers to run, debug and deploy applications from anywhere. Integrating the Node.js IDE with Heroku makes it possible for developers to deploy and update their application with a single click. Heroku powers more than 170,000 applications, the company said. These existing Heroku users can now directly deploy their application from Cloud9 IDE to Heroku services.

“We are very excited about the integration of Heroku in Cloud9 IDE,” said Ruben Daniels, CEO at Cloud9 IDE, in a statement. “We believe that developers need to focus on what they do best: write code. They should not have to worry about servers or VMs. With Heroku integration, developers can deploy scalable applications directly, with a single click to Heroku’s super-scalable back end.”

The editor behind Cloud9 IDE, Ace, was recently merged with Mozilla Skywriter and is already fully supporting Ruby, Clojure and Java programming languages, all supported on Heroku PAAS. Over the next several months, Cloud9 has set the goal of fully integrating these languages and frameworks into its Cloud9 IDE.

In a Sept 1 post on the Cloud9 IDE blog, the company said, “Right now we offer full support and helpers for Node.js applications, but other platforms supported by Heroku (Java, Clojure and Ruby) are coming soon.”
