JetBrains, maker of productivity-enhancing tools for software developers, has announced the availability of IntelliJ IDEA 9 Milestone Release 1, a preview of the company’s Java integrated development environment slated for release by the end of fall 2009.
The milestone release is an important step toward the next version of IntelliJ IDEA, designed to help developers stay in sync with the latest technologies, frameworks and languages, JetBrains officials said.
“We want to demonstrate the progress we’ve made toward IntelliJ IDEA 9 and show developers what it has in store for them,” said Max Shafirov, IntelliJ IDEA project lead, in a statement. “A milestone release is also a great chance for our users to voice their opinions and provide input on areas that still need improvement. We will carefully evaluate and utilize all feedback. Developers, in turn, can already start using the latest features we’ve implemented.”
IntelliJ IDEA 9 provides the following new features and improvements:
Optimized overall performance and usability; improved core Java development facilities Java EE 6 support; Tapestry and Open Services Gateway initiative (OSGi) integration; an optimized project indexing engine; support for Android and Google App Engine; global projectwide code analysis; improved Adobe Flex support; Google Web Toolkit (GWT) 1.6 support; and more.
