Judge Clears HP; Approves Buyout

A Delaware judge has dismissed Walter Hewletts lawsuit accusing Hewlett-Packard Co. of misconduct during its efforts to lobby shareholders to support the companys $19 billion buyout of Compaq Computer Corp.

Judge William Chandler III of the Delaware Chancery Court issued his ruling shortly after the stock markets closed in New York Tuesday.

The ruling clears the way for HP to complete its acquisition of Compaq, with HP Chairmain Carly Fiorina last week testifying that the company was looking to finalize the merger by May.
