Digital Evolution Inc. is turning its focus to service-oriented architectures and changing its name to SOA Software Inc. to reflect the new direction.

The Santa Monica, Calif., companys mission, said officials, is providing products and services to help enterprises build and manage SOAs. The company offers an SOA fabric solution that includes its Service Manager, registry and XML VPN products.

“SOA Software has developed the most comprehensive SOA fabric solution on the market today, enabling our customers to deploy true enterprisewide SOAs,” said Paul Gigg, CEO of SOA Software, in a statement. “Our name change reflects this fact and highlights our experience and vision in the market.”

Ronald Schmelzer, an analyst at ZapThink LLC, in Waltham, Mass., said, “By renaming itself theres pretty much no doubt as to what market they are focusing on. [But while] its clearly focused on SOA, its not just management and security anymore but, rather, the infrastructure required to make SOA work.”

“Also, the markets for SOA are still consolidating significantly,” Schmelzer said. “Its down to about three or four vendors in the Web services management space, and that might further consolidate. Were seeing the same trends in security, process and metadata management. With a moniker like SOA Software, the company will probably be looking to be the acquirer rather than be consolidated out of the space.”
