Digital Evolution Inc., a provider of Web services security and management software, acquired Flamenco Networks Inc., a provider of specialized network infrastructure to enterprises building secure, service-oriented architectures, in a deal announced Monday.
All Flamenco Networks products and solutions now belong to Santa Monica, Calif.-based Digital Evolution. Flamenco will maintain offices in Atlanta, with all product research and development proceeding as planned. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In a statement, Paul Gigg, Digital Evolutions president and CEO, said, “We believe that this acquisition puts us in a category well ahead of the competition and is clear evidence of our intent to consolidate our leadership position in the field of SOA security and management software. The addition of Flamenco Networks technology strengthens the Digital Evolution product portfolio and allows us to offer the most comprehensive Web services security and management solution available for enterprises today.”
Jason Bloomberg, an analyst with ZapThink LLC, of Waltham, Mass., said, “This acquisition makes sense for both Digital Evolution and Flamenco Networks. Flamencos strength in managing and provisioning B2B Web services, as well as their ability to provide the infrastructure for a hosted services environment, complement Digevs [Digital Evolution] strengths nicely, and will enable Digev to bring a deeper, more comprehensive product to market.
“From Flamencos perspective, the writing was on the wall, ever since an unflattering review a few months ago gave Flamencos technology a failing grade. Its important to point out that the product version that failed in that test reflected a poor product direction choice on the part of Flamenco, rather than a problem with their core technology. Fundamentally, Flamencos core technology is sound, and will enable Digev to provide greater value to its customers.”
