In previous releases, GoldMine has capably balanced ease of learning and customization to provide a flexible contact and sales management tool. This release continues that tradition by adding new tools for users without increasing overall complexity.

In eWEEK Labs tests, GoldMine 7.0 Corporate Edition was as easy to learn and customize as rival CRM systems. Although GoldMine is not as user-friendly as Salesforce.com Inc.s namesake CRM tool, most users should be able to work with GoldMine with limited training.

GoldMine made it easy to automate tasks such as scheduling follow-up meetings or communications with a customer. Another new feature in this release is the addition of one-click access to some direct actions from the customer search dialog, allowing us to schedule a meeting directly from the search component.

Given its overall low cost, GoldMine delivers a good degree of flexibility. For example, its GM+Views feature allows companies to add data from another system, such as an accounting application, within a customer record. FrontRange has improved this capability in this release through GM+Browser to present more information from a broader range of systems, such as a map of the customer site, in a separate window.

Many of the additions to GoldMine focus on underlying technology and integration points for third parties. For example, customers running GoldMine on Microsofts SQL Server will be able to tie in to Microsofts SQL Server Reporting Services to schedule reports. For companies that dont want to run on SQL Server, FrontRange has replaced GoldMines underlying Borland Software Corp. Borland Database Engine with Firebird Foundation Inc.s namesake open-source SQL database.

FrontRange has improved GoldMines application integration tools by allowing developers to publish their applications within GoldMine so that users can access them through custom menu options. These tools also now support ActiveX objects.
