Hewlett-Packard is deepening its relationship with Oracle with the release of new HP BladeSystem Matrix provisioning templates and reference configurations for Oracle solutions.

The company made the announcement Oct. 12 at Oracle OpenWorld 2009 in San Francisco, touting technology the company believes will ease the deployment of infrastructure services for Oracle applications. According to HP, the new provisioning templates and reference configurations will cut the time it takes to deploy server, storage and networking resources for Oracle applications on HP infrastructure down to minutes.

“In just minutes you can get that PeopleSoft environment up and running versus having to take weeks and months that traditionally happens from when a typical PeopleSoft environment needs to get deployed,” said Nick van der Zweep, director of virtualization and product management, HP Infrastructure Software and Blades.

With the BladeSystem Matrix Application Infrastructure Template kit, customers can automate provisioning of an Oracle PeopleSoft application with Oracle 11g in a three-tier architecture, HP officials said. Customers can also customize the templates, and predesigned workflows permit the fast expansion of infrastructure resources in response to business changes, officials added.

Beyond the templates and reference configurations, Doug Small, director of marketing for HP’s Enterprise Storage and Servers division, said the company has looked to enhance its partnership with Oracle in the area of storage virtualization as well.

“HP made an acquisition during the year for some significant new technology from LeftHand Networks and … Oracle recently has validated a solution with that technology and with their Oracle Virtual Machine, our ProLiant DL380 G6 Server,” he said. “So we’re pretty excited about that.”
