Supply chain management software maker Manugistics Group Inc. and business intelligence vendor Cognos announced an alliance today.

The gist of the agreement is to deliver real-time business and customer insight that spans data warehouses and operational sources to extended trading networks, including customers, distributors and suppliers.

Manugistics, of Rockville, Md., will integrate the reporting and analysis components of Cognos Series 7 with its Enterprise Profit Optimization software modules, which include Supply Chain Management, Pricing and Revenue Optimization, Supplier Relationship Management and Service and Parts Management.

More specifically, Cognos BI will be embedded in Manugistics NetWORKS ONEview, which will extend Manugistics ability to provide business intelligence to its clients and their extended trading networks.

ONEview provides operational monitoring and performance measurement, including a multi-dimensional view of business data, reusable metrics, and analytical support for optimized design.

Manugistics software is in use in a number of vertical markets, including government, aerospace and defense, automotive, chemical and energy, communications and high tech, to name a few.

Cognos, of Burlington, Mass., also makes Corporate Performance Management software—BI on an enterprise scale. CPM helps organizations measure execution against business strategy to ensure that the two are aligned at all levels across the enterprise, officials said.
