Siebel Systems Inc. announced Tuesday that it has closed on its acquisition of hosted customer relationship management services provider UpShot Corp.

Siebel paid $50 million in cash to UpShot shareholders with up to an additional $20 million to be paid as earn-outs this year and next. The acquisition gives Siebel UpShots own hosted service, which had about 1,000 customers as well as 100 employees.

Siebel plans to eventually merge UpShots service with its own soon to be released hosted CRM service by the second quarter of next year, though for now, it is offering the service as the Siebel CRM OnDemand—UpShot Edition.

Meanwhile, Mike Doyle, chairman and CEO of Salesnet Inc., another hosted CRM application services provider, dismissed any notions that his Boston-based company was next to be acquired by a larger enterprise software company.

“We dont have to do anything, our business is growing nicely,” said Doyle, who claims the largest hosted CRM installations for his firm. “Were talking to some folks about some partnership opportunities, but we intend to remain an independent company. Who knows, we might even do an IPO.”

In other news in the hosted CRM space Tuesday, Salesforce.com announced the sforce Toolkit for the Borland JBuilder X development environment.

Sforce, Salesforce.coms hosted application platform, allows developers to customize, integrate and extend Salesforce.coms hosted service to better address their specific business needs.

The sforce Toolkit, planned for shipment with Borland JBuilder X Enterprise and Borland Enterprise Studio 7 for Java, is designed to assist Borlands more than 1 million Java developers to build custom-tailored software-as-service CRM solutions.
