Three D Graphics Inc., a company that develops data charting technology for business intelligence and desktop applications, is spinning off its financial analysis software business into a separate company, to be known as Acumen Financial Solutions Inc., the company announced Tuesday.

As part of the move, the companys financial analytics tool, Finesse, will now be known as Acumen. The software is used to provide CEOs and CFOs with a visual representation of a companys financial performance, without having to rely on spreadsheets. It provides both top-down and what-if analysis.

Its also targeted at consultants, auditors, and financial and securities analysts, according to Three D officials in Los Angeles.

Three D will focus its business on providing charting applications to business intelligence software vendors, such as current customers Oracle Corp., Cognos Inc., Business Objects SA, Crystal Decisions, MicroStrategy Inc. and Information Builders Inc., officials said. The company also develops charting add-ons for Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.

“We searched for a product and company name that would convey the benefits CEOs, CFOs, accountants and analysts will derive from Acumen,” Elmer Easton, president and CEO of Three D Graphics, said in a statement. “Acumens greatest ROI is keen insight and a discerning view into your companys financial statements.”
