We keep hearing about “the upcoming Internet of things.” Well, we’ve got news for you: It’s already been with us for a long, long time — at certain levels.

We’re just now beginning to see the mainstream impact and benefits to our culture now that we have the network bandwidth, software and devices to pull this off.

The IoT will affect basically everyone on Earth — if not today, then very soon. We soon won’t be able to go anywhere that doesn’t have a videocam, sensor or other conduit to the IoT.

Apple only a day ago (Sept. 9) came out with its first wearable PC: the impressive-looking Apple Watch, which is expected to impact the world in a big way, simply because of the distribution reach and user community the company already has.

Talking points in the Sept. 10 eWEEKchat will include the following questions:

Q1: How is the IoT impacting you right now, if at all?

Q2: What is your take on Apple getting into wearables, namely the Apple Watch?

Q3: Do you feel safer with the IoT, knowing that there are more sensors and cameras to detect criminals?

Q4: How is your business affected by the IoT?

Q5: Which companies in the IT sector do you see as potential winners in the IoT market, and why?

Q6: What other sectors of IT stand to be recharged by such a renaissance caused by the IoT?

Join us later today for the discussion.
