The exclusive registry operator of the .biz top-level domain said Thursday it has recorded 500,000 such domain names in one month.

Sterling, Virginia-based NeuLevel, Inc. said the number reflects a strong global demand for the new domain, which became available on November 7, 2001.

“The need for a domain dedicated solely to business is strongly supported by the demand that weve seen. Companies of all sizes, all around the world have registered and are using their .BIZ web addresses.” said Doug Armentrout, CEO of NeuLevel, Inc.

NeuLevel said almost 50 percent of the .biz registrations emanate from outside the United States in over 205 countries around the world. 33 percent of the total registrations are in Europe, and 11 percent in the Asia Pacific region.

Registrations are accepted by more than 90 .biz-accredited registrars and thousands of resellers. A complete list of .biz-accredited registrars is available at http://www.neulevel.biz.
