Moving deeper into rival PeopleSoft Inc.s territory, Oracle Corp. announced a new human resources automation tool earlier this week.

Oracle Time & Labor is an enterprisewide time collection and management application that covers the time entry needs for an entire work force–from full-time employees to contractors and consultants.

A component of the Oracle Human Resources Management System module–which is part of Oracles E-Business Suite–the Web-enabled Time & Labor module eliminates redundant time entry for multiple applications. It offers a central time repository, Web and disconnected time entry, and templates that allow for time entry for any segment of the work force.

Likewise, the Redwood Shores, Calif., companys module offers automatic timecard approvals, historical timecard views, and absence tracking and reporting. A time collection interface accepts, consolidates and processes an employees time and checks that against employer-specific parameters and legal requirements.

PeopleSoft, for its part, has long offered a Time and Labor module that boasts one-stop managerial time reporting, time reporting over the Internet and integration with other PeopleSoft applications.

PeopleSoft, of Pleasanton, Calif., has its roots in HRA (human resources automation) and entered the PSA (professional services automation) market–the next step in HRA–this spring when it purchased PSA company SkillsVillage.

Oracles Time & Labor module is available immediately.
