When it comes to technology, it’s back to basics for 2008-that means security, disaster recovery and consolidating infrastructure-with dropping interest in extra goodies such as increasing business efficiency or improving work force productivity, according to a new report.
The Forrester Research report, “2008 SMB IT Budgets North America: It’s Back to Basics,” came out on March 28. In its research, Forrester found that for companies with less than 1,000 employees, it’s most important to ensure that IT shops are running smoothly.
The report found that improving IT efficiency is the top business priority. Top technology goals focus on security, which was cited as a critical priority for 20 percent of respondents and a high priority for an additional 28 percent. Disaster recovery was cited as critical by 13 percent and a high priority by 33 percent. Consolidating the IT infrastructure was found to be critical for 12 percent and a high priority for 25 percent.
